A brotherhood of music. This year’s 12th annual Gnaoua Festival kicks off on June 25 and runs through June 28 in Essaouira, Morocco, a usually tranquil french-blue and gauze-white city by the sea. But once the festival comes to town, the ramparts fill with music and dancing. Its a sight and sound not to be missed for anyone interested in world music — and a decidedly clandestine sub-saharan tribe….

One can easily travel to the festival via Marrakech (about 2.5 hours by car) or opt to stay in Essaouira (if you can find accommodations). Be sure to dine at Le Sirocco (the seagull) – tell Annie that Jason sent you! Check out more about this year’s Gnaoua Festival here:
